Dear Clients,
Date: April 20, 2024 - May 30, 2024
Time: Rolling upgrades
Scope of Work:
Starting on April 20, 2024, we will start upgrading the Operating system of many of our servers. We are moving from Centos 7 to Almalinux 8. We are doing so for a variety of reasons, some of which are listed below:
Support and Updates: CentOS 7 will reach its end of life in June 2024, meaning it will no longer receive updates or security patches. The safety and security of your data is of critical importance to us. AlmaLinux 8 is a long-term support (LTS) release, so it will continue to receive updates and support for a longer period of time.
Enhanced Performance and Stability: AlmaLinux 8 is built on a newer version of the Linux kernel and includes updated software packages, which can result in improved performance and stability compared to CentOS 7.
Better Security: AlmaLinux 8 includes enhanced security features and tools, which can help protect your system from vulnerabilities and cyber threats.
Community-driven and Open Source: AlmaLinux is a community-driven project that aims to provide a free and open-source alternative to CentOS. By upgrading to AlmaLinux 8, you can support the open-source community and benefit from ongoing development and collaboration.
Compatibility with Modern Applications: Many newer applications and software packages may require a newer version of the operating system to run properly. Upgrading to AlmaLinux 8 can ensure compatibility with these modern applications and technologies.
Overall, upgrading from CentOS 7 to AlmaLinux 8 can help future-proof your system, ensure ongoing support and security updates, and provide access to the latest features and improvements in the Linux ecosystem.
Sincerely,
